University of Cyprus Gets Over €37 Million for Research

The University of Cyprus has received a large amount of money for research. They got over €37 million for the year 2025. This is very good news. It shows the university is known around the world for its research. Since 1993, the university has received more than €457 million. This money has helped many research projects.

The university is also starting a new programme in English. This will begin in September. It is the first programme taught only in English. This will help the university become more international. It should also attract more students from other countries.

The university is very serious about research. Rector Tasos Christofides said, "The university is research-oriented." Many professors have received important grants from the European Research Council. Currently, 32 projects are funded by the ERC.

One assistant professor, Eleni Vryonidou, got an ERC grant. Her project will use data from the Large Hadron Collider. It will study things beyond our current understanding of physics. Professor Ioannis Krikidis also got a grant. His project will use quantum computing for new communication networks.

Professor Marios Polycarpou also received a grant. His project, WaterSAFE, will protect our drinking water systems. These grants show the excellent work of the university's researchers. They are making important scientific discoveries.

The university also has a biobank. This centre is working on new medicine. It is also mapping the genes of people in Cyprus. The university's research brings a lot of money to the country. It helps the economy grow.

The new English programme is called "Urban Sustainability." It is a big step for the university. More English programmes are planned for 2027. This will attract more international students. It will also help Cypriot students develop important skills. The university hopes this will stop talented people from leaving the country.
