Cyprus Warned of Bad Weather

Cyprus is expecting bad weather. The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow alert. This warning is for Thursday morning until early evening. It predicts strong thunderstorms with hail. The wind will also become much stronger. This stormy weather will likely continue through the weekend. It may affect people's daily plans.

A low-pressure system from Egypt is causing this instability. It will bring local showers and isolated thunderstorms. There is a chance of hailstones. Another weather system is coming from the west. It will start on Friday. This will make the weather unpredictable for Saturday and Sunday. People in the mountains, like Troodos, may see snow or sleet.

The amount of rain could be a problem. Some storms might bring 35 to 55 millimetres of rain in one hour. This could cause local flooding. The wind will also be unpredictable. It will change direction and speed. Coastal areas might have strong gusts. These winds and rain will make driving difficult and reduce visibility.

Temperatures will be mild on Thursday. They will be around 19 degrees Celsius. However, it will be cooler in the mountains, about 10 degrees Celsius. Friday will have similar temperatures. The weekend will be a bit colder than usual. There will also be more dust in the air. This can affect air quality.

The bad weather could cause rough seas. This might stop boat trips. People should be very careful. The yellow warning means everyone needs to be prepared. The unsettled weather with rain and thunderstorms is expected to continue. This means people should respond carefully.
