Sri Lanka Declares Weekly Holiday to Save Fuel

Sri Lanka's government has made a new decision. Every Wednesday will now be a public holiday. This is to help reduce how much energy the country uses. The government wants to avoid problems with fuel shortages. Many other countries in Asia are also taking steps to save energy.

This important decision comes after a meeting of government leaders. They are worried about the world's oil supplies. Tensions between countries like the US and Iran are affecting oil routes. The Strait of Hormuz is a very important waterway for oil. Most oil for Asia passes through this strait. Any problems there can cause oil prices to go up.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said, "We must prepare for the worst." This shows how serious the situation is. The weekly holiday will help people use less fuel for travel. This will save the country's fuel reserves.

Sri Lanka is not the only country trying to save energy. In Thailand, people are encouraged to wear lighter clothes. This means less need for air conditioning. Myanmar is limiting when people can use their cars.

Other countries are also taking action. Bangladesh is changing university holidays. They are also planning power cuts. The Philippines is asking some government workers to work from home. They have also stopped non-essential travel for government staff. Some people who drive tricycles, farmers, and fishermen are getting financial help. Vietnam is asking people to travel less. They suggest cycling, carpooling, and using public transport.

These actions show that many Asian countries are facing economic challenges. Sri Lanka's new holiday is a big change. It shows how dependent countries are on imported fuel. Geopolitical problems and changing oil prices are a big concern. We will watch to see if these measures help save energy.
