Cat Shootings Cause Alarm in Cyprus

A group in Cyprus is very worried about shootings of cats. The Movement of Ecologists is leading the calls for better gun rules. They say three recent events show a problem with guns in towns. These actions hurt animals and people. Residents are very upset.

Larnaca saw a cat hurt by an airgun in a neighbourhood. This shows guns are dangerous near homes. Paphos also had two bad incidents. One cat was paralysed by a bullet. Sadly, it had to be put to sleep. Another cat was shot many times. This was a cruel act.

The Ecologists' animal team is unhappy with the first police reaction. They think the police did not act fast enough. People who reported the Paphos cases will give more information. They want a full investigation.

The Ecologists said shooting near homes is cruel. It also threatens public safety. They believe weak police responses let violence continue. They said, "Impunity breeds violence." This means when people are not punished, more bad things happen.

The group wants new rules for owning guns. They also want current animal protection laws to be enforced. The Larnaca and Paphos events are not just single problems. They show a bigger issue with guns used wrongly in towns. Easy access to guns makes the problem worse.

These events show a need for more police attention. They must investigate and punish animal cruelty. The Ecologists want justice for the cats. They want to stop future cruelty. They are working with police for change. They want to protect animals and people in Cyprus.
