Kenya Floods Cause Major Crisis

Kenya is facing a big problem because of heavy rain for a week. Floods have killed at least 66 people. Thousands of people have lost their homes. Rivers are overflowing and flooding towns and low areas. Nairobi, the capital city, is badly affected. Thirty-three people died there.

The floods happened very fast. This was because of the weather and weak buildings. The rain was very strong. Many people had to leave their houses quickly. The Kenya Red Cross is helping people. They are giving food and shelter to those who lost everything.

In Nairobi, streets became dangerous rivers. In the Parklands area, water rose two metres high. People were trapped in buildings. Rescuers had to save them. The government warned people to be careful. The city's old drains could not handle so much water. Buildings have also blocked natural water paths.

Many people were saved from dangerous situations. Police said the rain caused terrible floods everywhere. Eleven people were saved from a flooded bus. Two children were rescued from a flooded house. Over 2,000 people are in temporary shelters.

Roads and bridges are damaged. This makes it hard to bring help. Power and water systems are also broken. Many schools are flooded and closed. The damage to homes and jobs will cost a lot of money.

Now, people are working to save those still missing. They are also thinking about how to rebuild. Kenya needs better plans for bad weather. They need stronger buildings and better water systems. The people of Kenya will be strong as they rebuild their lives.
