Migrant Worker Dies in Cyprus Basement; Carbon Monoxide Suspected

A man has tragically died in Paphos, Cyprus. He was 44 years old. Another migrant worker, aged 32, is in serious condition. Investigators believe carbon monoxide poisoning caused the death. This gas may have come from a charcoal heater. The heater was in a basement without fresh air.

A restaurant owner found the two people on Sunday morning. The deceased man was living in the restaurant's basement. His female friend also lived there. She works as a helper in a village. She was found with breathing problems.

She was taken to Paphos General Hospital. She is getting special medical care. Doctors think the fumes from the heater made her very sick. The preliminary evidence supports this idea.

The two people were trying to stay warm. They used a simple heating system. This system had burning charcoal in a metal box. The basement was small and had no ventilation. This allowed carbon monoxide to build up. This gas is dangerous because it stops the body from getting oxygen.

The restaurant owner called emergency services. Police and ambulances came quickly. The charcoal heater was found near the victims. This makes the carbon monoxide theory stronger.

This sad event shows the difficult living conditions for some migrant workers. The investigation is continuing. The incident shows the dangers of poor housing. People may use dangerous methods to stay comfortable. Heating in small, unventilated spaces is very risky. Officials will check safety rules. This tragedy is a serious warning.
