Cyprus prepares to lead the European Union

Cyprus is getting ready to lead the Council of the European Union. This will happen in January 2026. For six months, the island will help to guide the EU's work. Cyprus last did this job in 2012.

Cyprus will take over from Poland. The world now has many problems, like wars and cyber attacks. Because of this, security is very important. Cyprus recently held a big anti-terrorism exercise at a marina. Police, fire services, and medical teams all practiced together. A police spokesperson said everyone in the police will help in some way.

The country also has plans for EU policy. The Transport Minister says they will focus on three things: better connections, protecting the environment, and making transport easy for everyone. This work will continue what Poland started. Poland's time as leader put a strong focus on security for the bloc.

An ambassador from Poland said it is difficult to get all EU countries to agree. But Poland created a good plan for security and a strong economy. Now Cyprus will continue this work in 2026.

Cyprus will organize many meetings. Some will be in Brussels, and some will be in Cyprus itself. The police are planning carefully to keep everyone safe. They are working with other EU groups.

This is a big test for Cyprus. The country must help manage important EU business while also keeping itself safe. People will be watching to see how well Cyprus handles this important job.
