New Lane Opens at Cyprus Crossing

A new traffic lane opened at the Agios Dometios crossing on Friday. This is good news for people travelling in Nicosia, the capital city. The crossing connects different parts of the city. The new lane will help more cars pass through. This means less waiting for many people.

The European Union gave money for this project. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) built the new lane. They also made the crossing better. There is now a lane for cars going in each direction. This makes it easier for twice as many cars to cross. A new path for people walking was also built. This is important for people who do not drive.

The Deputy Mayor, Konstantinos Yiangou, is happy. He said the new lane will help with traffic jams. He also hopes there will be enough police to manage all three lanes. The police said the new lane is open. They will use it when traffic is busy. This helps them use their staff well.

Building the lane was difficult. It was in a special area called the buffer zone. This shows that different groups can work together. The new lane will make life easier for people in Nicosia. It will help them travel more easily. The new walking path is also good. It helps people who walk or cycle.
