The Limassol Carnival celebrations have finished. Arch. Makariou III Avenue, where the party happened, was very messy. However, many people wanted to help. More than 500 volunteers came together. They worked with the city services to clean the street. They made the area look good again. This was a great example of people helping their community.
The Limassol Carnival is a big cultural event. Many people watch the Grand Parade. The celebrations are fun, but they create a lot of trash. This year, there was a lot of rubbish. The city needed a plan to clean up the public spaces.
The City Friends Club started the volunteer effort. Anna Gubareva, who started the club, was very happy. She said it was the biggest cleanup they ever had. She also said that community spirit in the city is growing. Volunteers collected plastic, metal, and cartons.
City services also cleaned the avenue. They removed all the remaining trash. The volunteers collected 8.5 tonnes of recyclable things. They also collected 7 tonnes of spray cans. This was much more than last year.
The recycled materials were sent to special places to be processed. This helps use resources again. City services removed 50 tonnes of waste from the street. This shows how much work was needed.
Anna Gubareva said people celebrated and had fun. They also gave back to the city. This cleanup showed that people care about the environment. It also showed the strong community spirit in Limassol. This success can help future community projects.
