WHO Warns of "Black Rain" Health Dangers in Iran

The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning about health risks in Iran. Unusual "black rain" has fallen there. This rain is mixed with toxic substances. The WHO supports Iran's advice for people to stay inside. This is to prevent breathing problems and other health issues.

The problem started this week. A thick smog covered Tehran and nearby areas. This smog was caused by attacks on oil facilities. The attacks started big fires. These fires put dangerous particles in the air. Then, rain fell. This rain mixed with the pollution. It became the "black rain."

A WHO spokesperson, Christian Lindmeier, spoke about the danger. He said the black rain is a threat to people's breathing. He also said staying indoors is a good idea. This is because of the damaged oil facilities and fires. Serious air quality concerns are present.

A video showed a WHO employee cleaning dark, oily rain. This showed how widespread the pollution was. Scientists explain that toxic substances mix with raindrops. This creates the dark, oily rain.

People exposed to the rain and air can have breathing problems. They might also get headaches. Skin and eye irritation is possible. Long-term health risks could also happen.

Good news is that the rain is expected to stop soon. This may lower the immediate risk. However, the long-term effects are still a concern. The WHO warning shows the health impact of conflicts.
