UK Navy Boosts Security in Eastern Mediterranean

The Royal Navy has sent more ships to the Eastern Mediterranean. This is to protect important UK bases. RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus is one of these bases. A drone recently attacked this base. Iran also makes threats in the area. The UK wants to protect its interests there. This shows the UK is serious about safety.

A powerful warship called HMS Dragon is now in the region. It has advanced missiles. It can shoot many missiles at once. It can also watch many flying things at the same time. This ship helps protect a large area. It makes UK bases safer. A Merlin helicopter is also helping. It is used for watching and gathering information.

The UK Ministry of Defence explained why they are doing this. Iran has attacked British interests before. The Middle East is also a dangerous place. The drone attack on RAF Akrotiri was a clear warning. The UK needs a strong defence. Fleet Commander Steve Moorhouse said these steps will protect UK soldiers.

Another ship, RFA Lyme Bay, will also go to the area. This ship can carry soldiers and vehicles. It also has medical facilities. It can help if there is an emergency. Commander Al Woodward said the UK will keep this support for a long time.

These new ships add to the UK's defence. They work with existing systems. HMS Dragon, the helicopter, and RFA Lyme Bay show the UK's strong promise. They want to keep their people and bases safe. The Eastern Mediterranean is a difficult region.
