New Search for Missing Flight MH370 to Begin

The Malaysian government has approved a new underwater search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. This is the latest effort to solve one of aviation's biggest mysteries. The search will be led by a company called Ocean Infinity and will start on December 30th. It will last for 55 days.

The Boeing 777 plane disappeared on March 8, 2014, while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. There were 239 people from 14 countries on board. A very large international search from 2014 to 2017 did not find the main wreckage. An official report in 2018 said someone likely manually changed the plane's direction, but no one knows why.

Ocean Infinity tried to search earlier this year, but bad weather stopped them. Their new contract is "no find, no fee." This means they only get a large payment if they find the plane. They will use advanced robots to search a secret area of the ocean floor.

Families of the passengers have mixed feelings of hope and caution. Danica Weeks, whose husband was on the flight, said, "We’ve never stopped wishing for answers." The governments of China and Australia support the new search.

The main goal is to find the plane to give answers to the families. Finding it could also provide important data from the flight recorders. However, experts say even finding the wreckage may not explain why the plane disappeared.

The world is watching as the search date gets closer. For the families, this search is an important step after almost ten years of waiting and uncertainty.
