Cyprus Athletes Win Big at Balkan Championships

Cyprus athletes did very well at the Balkan Indoor Athletics Championships. They won many medals. They also set new national records. A small team of nine athletes went to Belgrade. Coach Luis Felipe Meliz led them. They made Cyprus proud. They won two gold medals. They also set two new national records. These achievements are important for Cyprus sports.

This success shows that Cyprus athletes are getting better. Filippa Fotopoulou won the women's long jump. Her first jump was 6.49 metres. No one could jump further. This was her first gold medal at these championships. She jumped over 6.42 metres many times. This shows she is a strong athlete.

Milan Trajkovic also did very well. He won the men's 60 metres hurdles. This was his third Balkan indoor title. He ran the race in 7.71 seconds. This shows his speed and skill. He has won before in Istanbul and Belgrade. He is a great competitor.

Other athletes also performed well. Petros Michaelides threw the shot put 19.49 metres. He came in fourth place. This was a new national record. Young athlete Antonis Katsantonis also set a new record. He ran the 60 metres in 6.68 seconds. He came fifth in the U20 race.

The whole team was very successful. They won 25 medals in total. This shows the athletes are dedicated. It also shows good training programmes in Cyprus. The team's success is important. It gives confidence to young athletes. They can achieve more in the future.
