Cyprus Supports Ukraine with Meeting

Cypriot parliament members met with former Ukrainian prisoners of war. The meeting happened in Nicosia on Tuesday. It showed Cyprus's strong support for Ukraine. This meeting was important. It happened four years after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Ukrainian representatives shared their difficult stories. They spoke about being prisoners. They also talked about the bad conditions in occupied areas. Haris Georgiades and Averof Neophytou were part of the Cypriot group. Volodymyr Mykolaienko and Dmytro Khilyuk were the former prisoners. They told their personal experiences.

Yulia Pavliuk also attended the meeting. She leads Ukraine’s work for prisoners of war. She gave important information about Ukraine's problems. These problems include getting prisoners back safely.

The parliament members learned a lot. They heard about the prisoners of war. They also heard about people in Russian-controlled areas. Cyprus MPs felt very sorry for Ukraine. They said Cyprus also has a history of occupation.

Mr. Georgiades said, "Cyprus must help Ukraine." He said this is because of international law. He also said Cyprus knows about its land being occupied. Cyprus wants to support Ukraine's independence. They support Ukraine's borders too.

Cypriot lawmakers said they support Ukraine's fight. They called it a "heroic struggle." They said Europe must be united. The meeting showed how hard it is for Ukraine. It is difficult to get information about captured people. This shows why international help is needed. The meeting made the conflict real for Cyprus politicians.
