UN Report: El Fasher Capture Shows Signs of Genocide

A United Nations report says the capture of El Fasher showed "signs of genocide." The city is the capital of North Darfur. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allies took control. The report details an 18-month occupation. It says the RSF tried to destroy Zaghawa and Fur ethnic groups.

This happened while Sudan's government was angry with Uganda. Sudan said Uganda was helping RSF Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti. Sudan called this against international law. The conflict is now in its second year. It involves other countries and worries the world.

The UN mission documented the RSF's actions carefully. They found that the crimes were planned and approved by RSF leaders. This supports earlier accusations of war crimes. The RSF came from militias known for past bad acts. They have fought the Sudanese army since April 2023.

More violence has happened with drone strikes in Kordofan. Unicef reported that 15 children died in West Kordofan. A drone hit a camp for people who had to leave their homes. Local groups said 28 people died in a market attack in North Kordofan.

The Sudanese army might be involved in the West Kordofan strike. However, the RSF is blamed for the North Kordofan attack. These attacks show how bad the violence is for civilians. Over 13 million people are displaced. Many are starving.

Hemedti's visit to Uganda caused problems. Sudan's government said Uganda broke international law. They said Uganda welcomed a "rebel leader." President Museveni met with Dagalo. Sudan sees this as support for a commander accused of abuses. The UN findings and civilian deaths create a very serious situation for Sudan.
