Cyprus Police Stop Big Drug Operation

Cyprus police have stopped a large drug smuggling plan. They found about 230,000 doses of illegal drugs. The police unit called Ykan worked together to make the seizure. They also arrested two people. The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, praised the police. This shows Cyprus is serious about fighting drugs. It also helps protect people, especially young ones.

The investigation started because of a tip. Ykan watched a car driven by a 34-year-old man. They saw him visit another man’s home. There, they saw the second man and another person put five big boxes in the car. A woman helped them get into a building. Then, the two men drove the car towards the first man's family home.

Police stopped the car while it was driving. The car had firecrackers inside. But a search of the family home found much more. They found about 62 kg of cocaine and 167 kg of cannabis. They also found 14 kg of cannabis resin. Other items included 381 e-cigarettes with THC, two guns, and two explosive devices. They also found scales and €21,765 in cash. The second arrested man had less drugs and €230.

Christos Andreou, the head of Ykan, said this was important. He said about 230,000 drug doses are now off the streets. He believes the two arrested men are not the main leaders. A bigger group is probably involved. The police are also looking for two more people. The arrested men will stay in custody for eight days. The President said the police did good work. He said it protects society and the youth. This is a big win against crime in Cyprus.
