At least 32 people have died after violent attacks on several villages. The attacks happened early Saturday morning in Niger State. Attackers burned homes and shops. They also took an unknown number of people. The villages are in the Borgu area. This area is near the Benin Republic border. People in these communities are now very afraid.
The attacked villages include Tunga-Makeri, Konkoso, and Pissa. These areas already have many security problems. Northern Nigeria has faced these issues for years. In Konkoso, the attack began around 6 am. Many attackers arrived on motorcycles. Witnesses heard loud shooting. The attackers set fire to houses and businesses.
The number of deaths is very sad. Six people died in Tunga-Makeri. However, Konkoso was hit harder. Local reports say at least 26 people died there. Jeremiah Timothy, who lives in Konkoso, said, "At least 26 people were killed." He also said the attackers burned the police station. This shows the attackers were very bold.
These terrible acts are part of a bigger problem. Armed groups, called "bandits," are active in northern Nigeria. They often kill people. They also kidnap people for money. They make many communities leave their homes. Other rebel groups and gangs also cause trouble. This makes it hard for the government to fix the security issues.
Niger State police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said, "Joint security teams have been sent." He added that efforts are being made to find the missing people. Security forces are now working in the area. However, the attacks were widespread. Some villages are also very far away. This makes it difficult for the police to help everyone. These attacks make poverty worse and force people to move.
