Cyprus Extends Solar Subsidies and Upgrades Electricity Meters

Cyprus is taking two important steps to use more renewable energy. First, the government will continue its financial help for families who install solar panels and home batteries. This support was going to end in December, but now it will continue. Officials say this is important to keep people confident and to avoid problems in the market.

The government's decision means that families can still get grants of up to €1,500 for this equipment. A committee leader, Kyriacos Hadjiyiannis, said the support for solar panels on homes will definitely continue. This helps people produce their own electricity and save money on their bills.

At the same time, the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) is changing old electricity meters for new "smart meters" across the country. Workers are going street by street in all major cities to install them. This work will cause short power cuts, usually for less than twenty minutes. The EAC says this short interruption is necessary for safety.

These two actions work together. The subsidies make it easier for people to choose solar power. The new smart meters will create a more modern electricity network. They will give more accurate bills and let people see their energy use in real time. I think this is a good plan for the future.

The energy committee will meet again in January to check the progress. The goal is to build a stable market for renewable energy in Cyprus. For citizens, this means some short power cuts now for a better system later, and continued help if they want to use solar power.
