California Avalanche: Search for Missing Skiers

A big avalanche happened in California on Tuesday. Ten skiers are still missing. Six other skiers are stuck. A group of four guides and twelve clients were in the snowslide. Bad weather made the avalanche happen. This weather is also making the rescue difficult.

The accident was near Truckee. This is a popular place for skiing. The Sierra Avalanche Center had warned about danger. They said there was a "high" chance of large avalanches. This warning was for Tuesday.

Many groups are working together to find the missing skiers. Rescue teams from Boreal Mountain Ski Resort are helping. The Alder Creek Adventure Center is also sending teams. A special vehicle called a SnoCat is being used. Forty-six emergency workers are searching. The six survivors are waiting for help. They are staying at the site.

The weather is still dangerous. More avalanches are possible. This is a difficult situation. Rescuers want to bring everyone back safely. The large size of the avalanche makes it hard. The search will continue. The next few hours are very important.
