Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. Dies at 84

Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr., a famous leader in the fight for civil rights, has died. He was 84 years old. His family shared the sad news on Tuesday. They said he was always fighting for fairness and equality. Jackson worked his whole life to help people who were treated unfairly. His death marks the end of an important time in American politics. He made a big difference and inspired many people.

Jackson was born in South Carolina in 1941. He grew up when Black people faced many difficult rules because of their race. He started his activism early, protesting at a library for white people only. This showed he would always fight against unfair racial barriers. He was a good athlete but chose to focus on his studies. He later studied at a seminary in Chicago. In the 1960s, he worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He learned about peaceful protest from him.

Jackson became well-known in the 1960s and 1970s. His presidential campaigns in 1984 and 1988 were very important. They helped more people join the Democratic Party. They also gave Black voters a stronger voice. Jackson encouraged many people to vote. His campaigns helped pave the way for future leaders like Barack Obama.

He also started the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. This group works for social justice and civil rights. Through this organization, he continued to speak for those without a voice. He also supported Arab American communities. An activist named James Zogby said, "Our country has lost a giant."

Jackson had health problems in recent years. He had COVID-19 twice. He also had a condition called PSP. However, he stayed involved with his causes. He was with his family when he passed away. Many people around the world will miss Reverend Jesse Jackson. He made a lasting impact on history with his dedication to freedom.
