Cyclone Gezani Causes Damage in Mozambique

Cyclone Gezani has caused much damage in southern Mozambique. At least four people have died. The storm destroyed many buildings and roads. It arrived on Saturday. It brought strong winds and heavy rain to Inhambane province. Thousands of people lost power. Water supplies were also cut off. This made things harder for people. Mozambique is still recovering from recent floods.

Inhambane city was hit hard by the cyclone. Winds reached 215 kilometers per hour. Trees fell down. Power lines were broken. More than 13,000 people had no electricity. Water was not available in some areas. This caused big problems for the people living there.

The cyclone came at a bad time for Mozambique. The country had just faced big floods. These floods affected over 700,000 people. These natural disasters together are a big challenge. Scientists say climate change makes storms stronger.

The cyclone also hit Madagascar. It was more deadly there. At least 41 people died. The damage cost about $142 million. Many people were hurt. About 16,300 people lost their homes. The government declared an emergency.

The United Nations is watching the situation. They are helping both countries. These problems show we need better disaster plans. We also need to fight climate change. People in Mozambique and Madagascar are strong. They will need to be strong again.
