Western Nations Say Russia Poisoned Navalny

Two years after his death, Western countries believe Alexei Navalny was killed on purpose. The United Kingdom and some European nations announced this at a conference. They say a strong poison from a South American frog was used. This accusation directly blames the Russian government. Russia has always said it was not involved in Navalny's death. He died in a prison in Siberia.

This important statement came after a meeting with Navalny's widow, Yulia Navalnaya. It shows that Western countries are more strongly criticizing Russia. The British Foreign Secretary said Russia saw Navalny as a big threat. She also said the poison showed how the Russian state can act and that it fears people who disagree with it.

Scientists studied samples from Navalny's body. They found the poison was epibatidine. This poison comes from some poison dart frogs in South America. The scientists said that frogs kept in zoos do not make this poison. It also does not exist naturally in Russia. Therefore, it suggests the Russian state planned to get and use it. The UK, Sweden, France, Germany, and the Netherlands say only the Russian government had the means, reason, and chance to do this.

Navalny often spoke out against President Vladimir Putin. He died in February 2023 in prison. Many people believe he was in jail for political reasons. His death caused worldwide anger and demands for answers. The prison where he died is now being carefully examined.

This new information is more than just criticism. It is a specific accusation with scientific proof. They used a very unusual poison. Experts think this shows Russia can do secret operations. It also shows they will use strange and deadly things to stop opposition. The message seems to be that Russia wanted to kill Navalny and warn others.

The Russian government has always said Navalny died of natural causes. However, these new findings challenge those denials. The investigation and the statements from Western governments show a big lack of trust between Russia and other countries. This is especially true after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. These accusations could cause more problems between countries. They also make Russia seem like a country that does not follow international rules.
