Boat Capsizes Off Libya, Many Lives Lost

A terrible accident happened near Libya. A boat carrying migrants sank in the sea. About 53 people died in this sad event. The boat left Al-Zawiya on Friday, February 5th. It was carrying people from different African countries.

The boat started its journey late on Friday night. It was going towards Europe. Sadly, the boat began to take in water. Then, it overturned in the Mediterranean Sea. Many people were in the water. Libyan authorities tried to help. They rescued only two people. These were two women from Nigeria. They are now getting medical help.

This accident shows the big dangers migrants face. They try to cross the sea to find a better life. Criminal groups help them with these dangerous trips. They often use bad boats. People take these risks because their home countries are difficult. They hope to reach Europe.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is very worried. They say many people have died this year. The sea crossing from North Africa to Europe is very dangerous. The IOM has recorded many deaths since 2014. The central Mediterranean route is especially deadly.

The European Commission said this is very serious. They want countries to work together more. They need to stop these dangerous journeys. They also need to stop the criminal groups that make money from them. This is important to save lives.
