Cyprus Song Sparks Eurovision Debate

A big argument has started about Cyprus's song for Eurovision 2026. Many important people want the song "JALLA" and its video to be removed. These forty people include a former minister and professors. They say the song shows a bad picture of Cyprus to the world. This makes people ask about how the country is shown.

An open letter was sent on February 10, 2026. It went to the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC). The letter says the song and video are "insulting to Cypriot history, traditions and aesthetic." The video shows dangerous things. It shows young people doing dangerous stunts on mopeds on public roads. Critics think this is not a good way to show the country.

Thanasis Tsokos, the head of CyBC, defended the choice. He said Eurovision is a "celebration that unites." He also said the song got a "warm and positive reception online." CyBC has made changes. They removed scenes that showed dangerous driving.

This argument shows different opinions. Some people think about artistic freedom. Others think about showing a good national image. Critics say it is about "principles and public responsibility." CyBC believes the song shows modern and traditional Cyprus. They changed the video to reduce complaints. This situation will cause more talks about public money for broadcasting.
