Cyprus Church Gets New Rules

The Church of Cyprus is changing its rules. A new plan is almost ready. This plan will make church business, elections, and courts work better. Archbishop Georgios said the new rules will start after Easter. The church wants to be more modern and efficient.

The main reason for the changes is to make things simpler. Archbishop Georgios said the old rules were too complicated. He also said there were too many lawyers in the church's main group, the Holy Synod. This is not like other Orthodox churches. He wants fewer lawyers there. This will help avoid problems and keep church work smooth.

A big job is to choose a new leader for Paphos. This position is empty now. The new rules will make choosing leaders faster. This will stop positions from staying empty for a long time. Experts from the church and three university professors helped make the new rules. They mixed old traditions with new ideas. After the rules are finished, the Holy Synod will meet to approve them.

The church also had a special visitor recently. Catholicos Aram I, the leader of the Armenian Church, visited Cyprus. He met with the President and Archbishop Georgios. This shows good relationships between churches. The Catholicos also visited Armenian churches and communities on the island.

Catholicos Aram I's visit was also to celebrate his 30th year as leader. He spoke about world peace and unity. This is important because Armenia has problems. His visit helped talk about religion and world issues. It showed how connected people are. Religious leaders can help build understanding.

The new rules for the Church of Cyprus are very important. They will make the church work better and be more open. These changes, with the help of friends like Catholicos Aram I, will make the church stronger. The changes will help the church serve people and Cyprus better.
