EU Warns TikTok May Be Addictive

European Union officials are worried about TikTok. They think the popular app might be made to make people addicted. This could break EU rules for digital services. Regulators are concerned that TikTok's features are made to make people use it a lot. This is especially true for young people. Therefore, there are big questions about if TikTok follows EU rules.

The EU Commission looked at how TikTok works. They examined things like the endless videos. They also looked at videos playing automatically. Frequent alerts and smart suggestions are also being checked. EU officials believe these things are not by accident. They think they are made to keep users on the app longer. TikTok has not shown enough proof that it checked the bad effects on health. This is important for young users.

The investigation also looked at TikTok's risk plans. It seems there were no good plans. Officials are unhappy that TikTok did not check how users act. They are worried about how often people use the app. They are also worried about late-night use. Furthermore, EU regulators think TikTok's screen time limits are not good enough. Parents can find it easy to get around these limits. This makes it hard for parents to protect their children.

Science shows that lots of new content can make people lose control. It can lead to addictive behaviour. The EU Commission thinks TikTok did not use this information. They did not plan for these effects. Therefore, TikTok might need to make big changes. This could mean stopping endless scrolling. It could also mean adding breaks. The way videos are suggested might also change.

These findings are not final yet. The investigation is still happening. However, TikTok could face big problems. If the problems are confirmed, TikTok might have to change its app. It might need to be redesigned. This could change how people use the app. It could also help people control their app use. This shows that governments around the world are looking at app addiction. They want to protect young people. TikTok will get a chance to respond to these findings.
