US Allows AI Chip Exports, Changing Global Tech and Energy

The US government has allowed Nvidia to send advanced AI chips to some Chinese companies. This decision could change how money is invested in AI around the world. AI technology uses a lot of energy. This means big changes for investors and company leaders. The time for just guessing about AI investments is ending. Now, markets want to see real profit growth. Also, the energy industry must prepare for much higher demand. This challenges the idea of an easy energy change.

Chinese developers have been very clever. They made good AI services with older computer chips. They used smart methods and large amounts of data. However, getting H200 chips will speed up AI development. It will also make development cheaper for these companies. This change in export rules is important. Nigel Green, CEO of deVere Group, said it changes how fast AI can spread. This will affect investors everywhere, not just chip makers. More advanced AI could lead to more competition.

The whole investment world is changing. People were very excited about AI for about two years. Now, they are looking more closely at the facts. Investors want to see if companies can make money from their AI spending. Some experts call this the "AI reckoning." It will be important for investments in the future. Green also said that AI has driven markets for two years. But now, people are focusing more on strong businesses. This means companies that rely only on future AI success might be re-evaluated.

At the same time, the energy sector is also changing a lot. Energy leaders say that the time of slow global energy demand is over. They also say the "managed energy transition" is finished. They believe that AI and data centers use a lot of energy. More electricity use and more people also increase demand. This means more energy supply is needed. The current systems and plans are not enough.

Natural gas will be especially affected. Experts think global demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) will grow a lot. It could rise from 400 million tons each year to 600 million tons by 2030. It might reach 800 million tons by 2050. This is more than a three percent growth each year. Because of this, big energy companies are calling themselves "international energy companies." This shows they want to manage complex global energy systems. The high energy needs of AI and the energy sector's changes mean a time of adaptation and investment.
