A terrible attack happened in two villages in Nigeria. The villages are called Nuku and Woro in Kwara State. Unknown gunmen attacked the people. They shot many villagers and set homes on fire. Some people were also taken away. Many people had to run away from their homes. This shows a big problem with safety in Nigeria. People want more security.
The number of dead people is very high. At first, a local leader said about 35 people died. But later, a Red Cross worker said 162 people died. The search for more bodies is still happening. Amnesty International said over 170 people died. Some were shot at close range. Others sadly burned to death. The Governor of Kwara State called it a "massacre." He said 75 people were killed. There were no police or soldiers there during the attack.
The Nigerian government is blaming groups for the attack. President Tinubu thinks Boko Haram did it. However, another local leader blames Lakurawa. This group is linked to the Islamic State. Some villagers said the attackers wanted people to follow Sharia law. The Governor said it was a "cowardly" act. He thinks it is because of the fight against terrorists. Different ideas make it hard to know what to do.
This attack is not the only one in Nigeria. There have been many violent events. Some villages got warning letters for five months before the attack. This means it was planned. Kwara State is close to Niger State. Many armed groups are in Niger State. An army group has now been sent to the area.
This attack has many bad results. People lost their homes. Some were kidnapped. Everyone is very scared. Amnesty International said the lack of security is "unacceptable." They want someone to be responsible. Nigeria needs better security plans. People want answers and an end to the violence.
