Cyprus Inflation Rises Sharply

Cyprus has seen a big increase in inflation. In January 2026, prices went up by 1.7%. This is much higher than December 2025, when inflation was only 0.1%. This change could cause economic problems for the country and its people. People are already finding utility bills very expensive.

This rise in Cyprus is different from the Eurozone. In the Eurozone, inflation went down to 1.7% in January 2026. Last year, in January 2025, Cyprus inflation was 2.9%. The recent jump shows prices are going up again. This means the cost of living is increasing.

Many people in Cyprus are facing financial difficulties. Reports show that electricity bills are very high. Some bills are between 4,000 TL and 5,000 TL. Some can even be over 13,000 TL. Water bills are also expensive, often from 1,000 TL to 2,000 TL.

These high costs make it hard for families. People say they are working just to pay the bills. One person said, "My electricity bill is around five to six thousand TL." They also said, "My water bill is about a thousand TL. We cannot manage."

The difference in inflation between Cyprus and the Eurozone is important. The high utility costs are a big problem for citizens. Cyprus authorities need to find ways to lower prices. They also need to help people with their financial burdens.
