Larnaca Leaders Demand Port Project Clarity

Larnaca residents are feeling frustrated about the slow progress of the Larnaca Port and Marina project. Local leaders met with the Transport Minister yesterday. They want to know the government's plans and when the project will start. A new proposal is causing much discussion in the city.

The Mayor of Larnaca, Andreas Vyras, spoke at the meeting. He asked the Minister about the government's view on a proposal from the Prosperity Group. This group is a major shareholder in the company that was supposed to do the work. Mayor Vyras said they need clear answers, not just rumors.

There have been many delays for this project. Other related plans are also stopped. For example, a competition for the Larnaca Nautical Club has not happened. A study from the Greek Growth Fund is also late. These problems make people worry about the future of the main project.

The Transport Minister, Alexis Vafeades, promised some action. He said the government will start three small projects costing about €30 million. This shows a new focus on the area. The important work to deepen the marina will finish this month. This is good news. The competition for the Larnaca Nautical Club can also start soon.

A very important study about the port and marina will be ready next week. This study will help decide the future plans for the area. The Minister promised to give clear timelines for the next steps. He said the government will work with the Mayor and the Chamber of Commerce.

People in Larnaca feel the project is very important for jobs and the economy. They want the government to look at all ideas to start the project again. The long wait causes problems for businesses and people living in Larnaca. The next few weeks will be important for the project.
