Baby Injured, Father Arrested

A three-month-old baby is in serious but stable condition. The child is at Makarios Children's Hospital. Last week, the baby was brought to the hospital. The injuries suggest shaken baby syndrome. This is a very sad situation. The baby's 28-year-old father has been arrested. He faces charges of serious harm and child abuse. Child welfare groups are asking for more help for new parents. They want to prevent such problems.

The baby needed a machine to help breathe. Doctors removed the machine on Saturday. This is good news. The baby now gets breathing help without the machine. The injuries are still very serious. Shaken baby syndrome is dangerous. A health official said the baby is stable. This gives some hope.

Police arrested the father in Nicosia. They are investigating the harm to the baby. The charges show how serious the abuse is. This event shows how vulnerable babies are. Parents have a big responsibility.

This case makes people talk about parents' needs. The children's rights commissioner spoke out. She said shaken baby syndrome is very dangerous. It threatens young children. It must not happen.

Commissioner Pericleous explained why this might happen. She said new parents do not have enough support. Parents can feel anxious and tired. They do not sleep enough. This can make them lose control. She asked the government to help parents. Parents need education and coping skills.

The arrest reminds us that violence against children is a crime. However, this case is also about more. It is about helping families. We need to know about the risks of shaking a baby. We need to support parents better. We need to help parents be strong. Criminal justice is important. But we also need to help families early. This will protect our children.
