Louiza Andreou, wife of Paphos Mayor Phedon Phedonos, has asked Cyprus Police to stop their investigation. The police started looking into the mayor after social media reports. These reports were about domestic violence. The Ministry of Interior is now checking what this means for the mayor's job.
The problem began before January 25th, 2026. Stories about an alleged domestic violence incident spread online. The Cyprus Police quickly began an investigation. They are collecting information and looking at evidence.
The Ministry of Interior also asked the Chief of Police for information. This shows they are thinking about the mayor's position. They are checking the 2022 Law on Municipalities. The Ministry wants to know if the mayor could be suspended from his duties.
Mrs. Andreou sent a letter asking the police to end the investigation. Police spokesperson Christodoulos Konsolos said they received the letter. Investigators are now reviewing it. Mrs. Andreou also wants a public statement about the investigation ending.
Mayor Phedonos denies the accusations. He calls them a "merciless war" against him. He believes political and criminal groups are targeting him. He says the claims are part of a larger political fight. This situation will affect how Paphos is run.
