Baby Injured: Call for Better Parent Support

A serious incident involving a three-month-old baby has led to a strong request from Cyprus's Children's Right Commissioner. Elena Pericleous wants better support systems for new parents. She said that current help is not enough for the big problems parents face. This sad case shows that families need more help when raising young children.

The baby is in the hospital with serious injuries. Doctors think the baby was shaken. The baby needs a machine to help breathe. A 28-year-old father was arrested because of the baby's injuries. This shows how bad things can get when parents are stressed and tired. Many people now see that families do not get enough help.

Commissioner Pericleous said that only punishing people is not the answer. She wants to stop problems before they happen. Stress, tiredness, and not sleeping can cause parents to lose control. This can lead to terrible results.

The Commissioner suggested a new system. This system would help parents before problems start. It would include more education for parents. They would learn how to calm babies and understand that hurting a child is very wrong. The aim is to stop abuse and keep children safe.

This event has made people talk more about the hard times new parents have. The government must find out about child abuse. It must also work to prevent it. The baby's condition is a reason for change. We need to understand that raising children is hard. We need systems that help parents and protect children.
