Cyprus Becomes Key Gateway for Indian Businesses in Europe

Cyprus is becoming an important center for Indian companies. These companies want to trade with the European Union (EU). A new free trade agreement between the EU and India makes this possible. This agreement removes many trade barriers. Therefore, Cyprus is a key gateway. It can also help trade with the Middle East. This is part of a plan called IMEC.

This new trade deal starts a new time for cooperation. Cypriot and Indian businesses will work together more. Growth is expected in areas like technology and services. Defense, farming, and shipping will also see more business. A joint statement shows both countries want stronger economic links. They also want to invest in each other's countries.

In the past, Cyprus and India have traded goods. Cyprus usually sent iron, steel, and metals to India. India often sent chemicals, medicines, and clothes to Cyprus. The new trade agreement should increase these exchanges. It will also create new ways to trade in the future.

Cyprus is in a good location. It is between Europe, Asia, and Africa. This has always been helpful. The new trade agreement and IMEC make this location even more valuable. Filokypros Rousounidis from the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce said this. He spoke about the island's good position.

Giorgos Pantelidis from the Cyprus Employers Federation also sees potential. He thinks technology, services, and shipping will be important areas. The agreement could double European exports to India by 2032. This is because of lower taxes and easier import rules. Cyprus can now reach India's large market. It can also sell more Cypriot products to India.

Leaders from India and Cyprus have met recently. The Indian Prime Minister visited Cyprus. The Cypriot President will visit India soon. These meetings show the growing relationship. They want to support fair trade rules. They also want to build lasting partnerships. This is important in a world with many changes. Cyprus is making its economy stronger.
