UK Freezes Assets of Iranian Businessman

The United Kingdom has frozen the assets of Ali Ansari. He is an Iranian businessman with a Cypriot passport. This happened on Tuesday. The UK government believes Ansari financed Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC is accused of violence against protesters in Iran.

Ansari also has passports from Saint Kitts and Nevis. He allegedly helped the Iranian government with money. The UK wants to stop people from helping the Iranian government. They also want to stop them from using Western banks.

This action shows how rich people connected to Iran move money. They buy property in Europe. Investigations show Ansari owns many properties. Their value is about €400 million. He reportedly used offshore companies to manage them. These companies are in different countries.

Ansari owns hotels in Spain and Austria. He also owns hotels in Germany and a shopping centre. The UK has frozen his assets in London. This is because of the new sanctions.

Recently, Ayandeh Bank failed. This bank was reportedly linked to Ansari's family. The bank's collapse adds to the questions about Ansari's business.

Ansari denies the accusations. His lawyer said he has no financial link to the IRGC. This is what the lawyer told In-Cyprus. The UK government has a different view.

The sanctions highlight concerns about people with links to Iran. They also bring attention to Cyprus. Cyprus has given passports to rich people connected to Iran before. The UK's action is part of efforts to stop illegal money transfers.
