New Air Defence System Reported in Northern Cyprus

Concerns about security are growing in the Republic of Cyprus. Reports say Turkey has put a new air defence system in the north of the island. This system is called a "Steel Dome." If true, it is a big change for the region.

The system uses Hisar missiles. These can reach targets up to 40 kilometres away. The missiles are part of a larger defence plan. This plan aims to improve Turkey's watch over Cyprus and the nearby sea. News reports say this system connects to Turkey's main military control.

Experts worry about this new system. Analyst Yiannos Charalambides is concerned for Cyprus's helicopters. He said the Hisar missiles might be too long-range for the helicopters' weapons. This could make the helicopters fly too close to danger. Therefore, Cyprus might need to be more defensive.

Turkish news reports describe a full air defence network. It uses different radar and missile systems. A central system called "Hakim" controls everything. It collects information from sensors. Then it tells weapons where to aim. The goal is to stop threats like drones and missiles.

Meanwhile, life continues in Kyrenia (Girne). The electricity company KIB-TEK announced power cuts. These will last about three hours. They are for important work.

The Girne Municipality is also starting a new project. They are offering electric bicycles. Mayor Murat Şenkul is happy with the project. Many people and tourists are interested. While there are security worries, daily life goes on.
