Cyprus Acts on Abandoned Properties and Scams

The government of Cyprus has cancelled more than 300 rental contracts. These contracts were for abandoned Turkish Cypriot properties. This action happened after a review found many rule breaks. The government now wants to manage these properties better.

A new law from last year helps manage properties. A review of 4,032 commercial rental contracts found 590 violations. Because of this, 280 contracts were ended. Some contracts with towns and villages were also cancelled. Towns ended five contracts. Village councils ended three. For homes, 31 breaches were found. Some people received warnings or must leave their homes. The Interior Minister called this a "big step" for better property management.

At the same time, there are scams targeting Turkish Cypriots. People are asking for too much money, from €1,000 to €1,600. They falsely promise to speed up citizenship applications. A Turkish Cypriot leader warned people about these fake offers. He said eligible people can apply directly for free. There is no time limit for applications. More interest in citizenship has led to these scams.

These government actions will help fix contracts. They will also help reassign properties in a good way. The government wants to manage abandoned properties clearly.

Also, warnings about citizenship scams show a need for good information. Officials want to stop people from losing money. They will help people apply through official ways for free. The government is working on managing properties and protecting citizens. This shows they want a safer place for everyone.
