New Marine Sciences School Coming to Larnaca

The Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) has announced exciting plans. It will build a new School of Marine Sciences, Technology, and Sustainable Development in Larnaca. The school will be in the Mackenzie area, near the old airport.

The university's rector, Panagiotis Zafeiris, shared the details. Construction on the large, 12,455-square-meter building should start in 2025. The first students could begin their studies in 2028. The town planning and building permits are already ready, which is good news for the project.

This is a big investment. The first three years will cost about €21.7 million for construction and equipment. After that, the school will need around €3.5 million every year to run. By 2030, they hope to have 420 students. This number should grow slowly every year.

However, there might be a small delay. Officials said the 2025 start date is the plan, but construction could begin a little later. They are being careful with their schedule.

I think this is a very positive project for Cyprus. It will use a historic area for modern education about the sea and sustainability. It shows how the country is thinking about the future. Everyone will now watch for the first construction work in early 2025.
