Peace Talks Begin in Abu Dhabi

Representatives from Russia and Ukraine are meeting in Abu Dhabi. The United States is helping to lead these important talks. The discussions started on Friday. They will last for two days. The goal is to reduce the conflict in Ukraine. This war has lasted for almost four years.

A main topic is the disagreement about land. Both countries want different things for certain areas. This has stopped peace agreements before. The United States wants a full peace deal. Ukraine wants to keep receiving help from America.

Before these talks, there were other meetings. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke with President Trump in Switzerland. Also, US envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. These meetings happened before the Abu Dhabi summit. They helped prepare for the current discussions.

Russia wants Ukraine to remove its army from the Donbas region. This is a very important point for Russia. Ukraine wants to protect its land. It also wants to make sure America continues to help. President Zelenskyy hopes the talks will help bring peace. He said, "We have to wish it will push us a bit closer to peace."

The war has caused much damage in Ukraine. These talks are a way to find a solution. The United Arab Emirates is hosting the meetings. They are acting as a neutral country. For the talks to succeed, both sides must agree on land issues. They also need to feel safe. It is not yet clear if these talks will bring lasting peace.
