Man Held After Early Morning Shooting in Paphos

A 49-year-old man will stay in prison for four days after a shooting in the village of Mesogi, Paphos. The incident happened early on Saturday morning. Police say the man fired a hunting rifle outside his sister's house. No one was hurt, but there was some damage to the property.

The problem started with a family argument about property. On Friday night, the man and his sister's husband had a fight in a nightclub. Later, the man sent a worrying text message to his sister. It said, "Sister, I died today... don’t look for me again I am dead."

Then, at about 5:30 in the morning, police heard reports of gunshots. They found the man shouting outside the house. Officers found three empty bullet cases and saw damage to the roof. The hunting rifle was left on a nearby wall. Police also say the man called his sister and told her to "Tell him to go downstairs." They believe he wanted his brother-in-law to come outside.

The man now faces many serious charges. These include having a gun illegally, shooting in a public area, and destroying property. The court decided to keep him in custody so police can continue their investigation.

This was one of two shootings in Cyprus within one day. The other happened in Nicosia. The two events are not connected, but they have made people and police worried about gun violence. This case shows how a family problem can become very dangerous very quickly.
