Big Operation Finds Many Problems in Limassol Businesses

Police and other officials worked together on a big operation in Limassol. They checked businesses owned by people from other countries. The operation found many problems with immigration and work rules.

Authorities stopped several people and gave large fines. The checks focused on popular barber shops and restaurants. This was because of worries about businesses not following rules. They also worried about people working without permission.

The operation happened on Thursday afternoon and evening. Many groups helped, like the Crime Prevention Unit and immigration officers. They also had help from the Ministry of Labour and the Tax Department. They checked main shopping streets. Their goal was to see if businesses followed rules for opening hours, licenses, and hiring people.

During the checks, about 50 people were looked at. The results showed problems. Many barber shops were closed or open too late. Some did not have the right licenses. Four barber shops were in trouble for these reasons. One restaurant was also working without permission.

There were serious results for these problems. Six people were arrested. Three were living in Cyprus illegally. Three others were working without permission. Also, eight workers were not officially reported to the government. This shows a big problem with hidden workers.

The fines for the businesses were high. They paid a total of €26,800. Some businesses were also fined for tax problems. They did not give receipts or have card machines.

Officials said this is only the start. They plan more checks soon. They want to make sure all businesses follow the rules. This will help stop illegal immigration and work. It will also make sure businesses follow tax rules. The authorities want a fair business area.
