'Sinners' Leads Oscar Nominations with Record 16

Hollywood was excited on Thursday. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences shared the nominations for the 98th Academy Awards. The vampire movie 'Sinners' is a big surprise. It received 16 nominations. This is a new record. It is more than the previous record of 14. 'Sinners' tells a story about the Segregation era. This is unusual for a horror movie at the Oscars.

Michael B. Jordan is nominated for Best Actor. He played two brothers in the film. Critics and voters liked his performance a lot. Director Ryan Coogler is also praised. Many think he will be nominated for Best Director. Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo got nominations too. They are for their supporting roles in 'Sinners'.

Other movies are also competing for awards. In the Best Picture category, 'Sinners' has tough competition. The war drama 'One Battle After Another' is nominated. The movie 'Frankenstein' is also a contender. The science fiction film 'Bugonia' is another strong candidate. Jessie Buckley and Kate Bachchan are nominated for Best Actress.

'Sinners' success is very important. Horror films usually do not get many major Oscar nominations. This film's achievement may change things. The Academy might be more open to genre movies. The story happens in Mississippi during a difficult time. It mixes scary supernatural events with social messages. This combination clearly impressed the voters.

The 98th Academy Awards will be on March 15th. Conan O’Brien will host the show. ABC will broadcast the event. Many people will watch to see who wins. 'Sinners' has many nominations. This suggests a year with exciting stories. It might also change what kind of movies win awards.
