Cyprus Takes EU Helm: France Offers Strong Support

Cyprus will soon lead the Council of the European Union. France has high hopes for this six-month term. Paris will give Cyprus strong support and advice. Both countries want a stronger, more independent Europe. This cooperation aims to help the EU face world problems better.

France and Cyprus agree on the EU's future. This was clear at a recent meeting in Nicosia. French Minister Marie-Pierre Vedrenne met Cyprus's Justice Minister Costas Fitiris. French President Emmanuel Macron also met with Cypriot officials earlier. Macron said France trusts Cyprus to lead important work. He promised France would help and guide Cyprus. Macron believes Cyprus can ensure Europe protects its own interests.

France expects Cyprus to improve EU competitiveness. It also expects simpler rules for businesses. A policy called "European preference" is also important. This means favoring goods from EU countries. Cyprus's plan will likely include investing in key industries. Strengthening the Capital Markets Union is also expected. This will help investments flow better in the EU. A strong economy is needed for Europe to act on its own.

This work strengthens ties between France and Cyprus. France also wants to improve security and defense in Europe. The EU needs to be strong against many threats. This includes unfair trade and attacks on democracy. Protecting young people online is also a concern.
