Billionaires Get Richer While Others Struggle

A new report from the charity Oxfam shows a big increase in the number of billionaires. Their money has grown a lot. This report, from 2025, shows governments may help rich people more than normal people. This has caused many people to be unhappy. People are protesting around the world.

Oxfam's survey shows there are now over 3,000 billionaires. Their total money is about $18.3 trillion. This is an 81% increase since 2020. This means the richest people have much more money. However, billions of people are having trouble. They face higher prices and low wages.

The report says this is because of government choices. Max Lawson, who wrote the report, said governments are choosing to protect wealth. Rich people are becoming more powerful. They can change how countries work. This happens through lower taxes for companies. It also happens through cuts to schools and hospitals.

These money problems are causing more unrest. It is harder to fight poverty and hunger. Basic things are too expensive for many people. Since 2020, there have been more protests. Young people are leading many of these protests. They are angry about unfairness and job losses.

In Kenya, people have protested government cuts to schools and hospitals. Activist Wanjira Wanjiru said it is clear what governments care about. She said, "When our schools and hospitals are starved of funds while the wealthy are given more breaks, it’s clear where the priorities lie." Many people feel their governments have forgotten them. The report shows governments are making the gap between rich and poor wider.
