An Israeli airstrike in central Gaza on Wednesday killed three Palestinian journalists. This happened in the Al-Zahra area. The Israeli military said they thought the journalists were using a drone for Hamas. This event shows how dangerous it is for reporters in Gaza. More fighting is happening in Gaza and near the border with Lebanon.
Gaza has seen many deaths since October 10th. On Wednesday, eight other people died in Gaza. This included two children killed by Israeli artillery. Three people were killed by Israeli tanks in central Gaza. A boy and a woman died from Israeli gunfire in Khan Younis. The Israeli military also said they stopped a fighter near the border.
The border with Syria and Lebanon is also tense. Israel attacked four places they said Hezbollah used to move weapons. Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon killed at least two people. About twenty people were hurt. Nineteen people were injured in attacks on Qanarit. Other strikes in Zahrani and Bazuriyeh killed one person each.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun strongly criticized Israel's actions. He called them a "policy of systematic aggression." He said Israel is targeting civilians. President Aoun believes this is a "dangerous escalation." He stated that Israel is not following the rules for stopping the fighting.
Also, there are worries about press freedom. A judge stopped the US government from looking at papers taken from Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson's home. The government said the papers were needed for a case about Aurelio Luis Perez-Lugones. A hearing is planned for February 6th. The Washington Post wants its papers back. The UNRWA headquarters in East Jerusalem was also reportedly destroyed. The UN said this breaks international law. These events show growing problems in the region.
