Hotel Collapse Becomes Symbol of Justice Issues

The collapse of the İsias Hotel is more than just a sad event. It has become a symbol for the Turkish Cypriot community. Many children and adults died in the collapse. Former minister Kudret Özersay spoke about this on television. He said the slow legal process and lack of responsibility for officials cause great pain.

The hotel fell down during a big earthquake in Turkey. Some people think mistakes and failures caused this. Özersay is criticizing how the courts are handling the case of public officials. He believes the law is not looking at possible deliberate actions. This, he said, makes it hard to find true justice. It also means powerful people may not be fully responsible. This makes people lose faith in the legal system.

Özersay said the dead children are symbols of this national sadness. Their loss hurts everyone, not just their families. He thinks officials must be held responsible for their actions. "Every signature has a consequence," he said. If there are no consequences for mistakes, people will not trust their government.

Özersay also talked about wider problems in politics. He mentioned corruption and a culture where people get away with bad actions. He sees his political party as a way to fight these problems, even when not in power.

If the courts in Turkey do not help, Özersay said they might go to the European Court of Human Rights. This shows how important the case is. He said finding responsibility is key for the future. Özersay believes that serious political corruption needs more than just normal politics to fix. The İsias Hotel disaster reminds us of the importance of duty, justice, and public feeling.
