US Threatens Tariffs Over Greenland

The US President has threatened to put new taxes on goods from eight European countries. This will happen if they do not support his plan to buy Greenland. The announcement has worried many people. The countries being targeted are now talking about how to respond.

The President’s demand was made public on Saturday. The countries include Denmark, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The new taxes would start at 10% on exports to the US. They would increase to 25% by June 1. The President believes Greenland is important for US security. He said it is "time for Denmark to give back."

However, the European countries strongly disagree with this plan. They released a statement saying the threats are bad for relations between the US and Europe. They will protect their countries. The Prime Minister of Denmark said, "Europe won't be blackmailed."

The European Union is working together to face this problem. Leaders are having many meetings. They are thinking about their own taxes on US goods. This could be worth many billions of euros. They might also use a special tool to stop this kind of pressure.

Experts say these actions could harm relations between the US and its friends. The European countries are now more united. They want to stand together against what they see as unfair pressure. The next few weeks will be important. We will see if they can find a peaceful solution or if a trade war will start.
