Syrian Army Takes Land Near Aleppo

Syrian army soldiers have taken control of new areas east of Aleppo. These areas were previously held by Kurdish forces. Because of this, United States officials have asked for fighting to stop quickly. The Syrian army moved into these places after the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) moved their soldiers.

The SDF said they moved their soldiers east of the Euphrates River. They said this was because allies asked them to. By Saturday, the Syrian army entered Deir Hafer. This town is about fifty kilometres from Aleppo. Reports also said the army took control of Tabqa. This is in the Raqqa area. Pictures showed Syrian army vehicles moving into these areas.

The Syrian government's move seems connected to talks with the United States. President Ahmed al-Sharaa's government promised to make Kurdish an official language. The SDF's movement was also part of these talks. However, the United States is unhappy with the Syrian army's actions. A US commander asked Syrian troops to stop fighting.

These fast changes have made the area more tense. Both the SDF and the Syrian army say the other side broke an agreement. The SDF says the Syrian army did not follow the rules. The Syrian army says the Kurdish forces did not follow the rules either. This makes people worry about fighting between the two groups. About four thousand people have left the Deir Hafer area.
