Cyprus Faces Weather Problems Affecting Honey and Travel

Cyprus is having two main problems. Bad weather is hurting honey production. It is also making travel difficult for many people. Heavy rain makes it hard to see on roads. Safety warnings are now in place. Climate problems are also hurting the country's beekeepers.

The agriculture department says honey yields are much lower. Honey production may fall by 30 percent. This is because of difficult weather over recent years. Long dry periods and very hot weather reduced flowers. Bees have less food. This means less honey is collected. One official said heat, dry weather, fires, and city growth hurt plants. These plants are important for bees. Bees are weaker and get sick more easily.

A new cold weather system is also causing worry. Cold air is bringing rain and snow to high areas. Heavy rain is falling in places like Lakatamia. Roads are dangerous with poor visibility. This is especially true in Nicosia. The police asked drivers to be very careful. They said to drive slower and leave more space. Drivers should also use their headlights.

The weather forecast shows more rain. Skies will be cloudy with some showers. There might be thunderstorms. Snow is expected in the Troodos mountains. This will make travel harder there. Winds will get stronger and change direction. The sea will be mostly calm.

Temperatures will be cooler than usual. Inland areas will be around 15 degrees Celsius. Coastal areas will be about 17 degrees Celsius. The highest mountains will be 5 degrees Celsius. At night, it will be colder. Inland areas will be 8 degrees Celsius. Coastal areas will be 10 degrees Celsius. The mountains could reach 1 degree Celsius. Frost is possible there. On Sunday, it will stay cloudy with rain. Snow is expected in the mountains.

These weather problems are a big threat to Cyprus's honey industry. Beekeeping is important for food and nature. Less honey is hard for beekeepers. Bad weather also makes travel unsafe. Healthy bees are needed for the environment. The island's nature and people are being tested.
