US Helps Remove Venezuelan President

The United States has helped remove former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. This starts a new time for Venezuela with its new leaders. The US also offered money to help Venezuela. This is a change in how America deals with South America. US soldiers took Maduro from Caracas on January 3rd. He was then sent to New York. He will face charges there.

Maduro's government is now gone. This was something the US wanted for a long time. Some people worried this could make the region unstable. Many countries are now talking about the legality of this action. After Maduro left, Delcy Rodríguez became the interim president on January 5th. She was the Vice-President before.

CIA Director John Ratcliffe met with Rodríguez in Caracas. They talked for two hours. They wanted to build trust and start talking. They also discussed helping Venezuela's economy. They want to stop Venezuela from helping America's enemies. The US has learned from the past. Sometimes, bad groups used power vacuums.

Opposition leader María Corina Machado also has a plan. She wants Venezuela to be friends with America. She spoke at a press conference. Machado believes she will win elections. She could be Venezuela's first woman president. The US wants a stable government that supports America.

President Trump met with Machado. He gave her a Nobel Peace Prize medal. This showed her importance internationally. Trump also wants to help Venezuela's economy. He wants American oil companies to invest money. He asked them to invest at least $100 billion. This is different from past US policies.

Rodríguez said Venezuela wants to talk with the US. She said Venezuela is open to changes. These changes could bring in foreign money. The success of this US plan depends on Venezuela's stability. It also depends on if the new leaders can make changes. The next few weeks will be important.
